Selecting & Applying Wood Edge Banding: Key Points
Edge banding is a critical finishing element that shapes the perceived quality of a panel.
Selection
- Tone & grain match: Source the same batch/tone as the surfaced panel.
- Construction: Fleece/raw bands suit machine feed; pre‑glued bands are practical for iron / small shop use.
- Dimension: 19–50 mm widths are common—select based on finished panel build‑up.
Application
- Clean the surface of dust and oils.
- Calibrate temperature / pressure / feed speed to band & adhesive type.
- Inspect trimming & light chamfer tooling; sharp cutters reduce fiber tear.
Field Durability
- Allow adequate heat/pressure dwell for secure bonding.
- Protect edges during handling, transport, and installation.
